Rhino Survivors

Rhino poaching statistics are reaching unparalleled proportions with 2.5 rhinos being killed every day of the year 2013 so far. The vast majority are killed for their horn in Kruger National Park with Limpopo, North West Province, and KZN close on its heels. United Against Poaching is a collaboration between Investec Rhino LifelineChipembere Rhino Foundation, and the Forever Wild – Rhino Protection Initiative, who have teamed up to provide a necessary service to treat rhinos injured in attempted poaching incidents.

This video was filmed on one of the team’s missions to treat and care for four injured rhinos that had been shot at Elandana Private Game Reserve near Hoedspruit early this year. The four rhinos escaped with their lives and horns intact, and fortunately most with relatively minor injuries. However, without proper treatment their injuries would very likely culminate a slow and painful death.

A fantastic example of the power & strength of cooperation and combined expertise.
