Lion Coalition Work

Besides the joint advocacy work to stop the captive breeding of lions and other big cats in South Africa, the Lion Coalition also joins forces in writing submissions to national and provincial government, and in sending both private and open letters to various organisations.
Some of the joint initiatives include:
- Open Letter to President Ramaphosa in support of the SATSA captive wildlife interaction guidelines, in response to the “Captive Wildlife” open letter asking to reject these important guidelines
- Media statement: SATSA releases a solid set of home-grown captive wildlife interaction guidelines
- Media statement: Reclassification of 33 wild mammal species under the animal improvement act
- Open Letter of support to Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve
- Feedback to SATSA on the development of national industry guidelines on captive wildlife in tourism (still pending)
- Submission to Department of Environmental Affairs to object the setting of the 2019 lion bone quota (still pending)
- Nominations to the Department of Environmental Affairs for the High-Level Panel (still pending)
- Open Letter to the Honorable Minister TM Masutha
- Lion cubs born through artificial insemination at Ukutula Conservation Centre & Biobank
- Contributions to the Parliamentary Colloquium on the captive breeding industry (August 2018)
